The year's most important Orphanage Session
November's Orphanage Session is important for several reasons. Firstly our guest is the Australian country music starlet, Ronni Rae Rivers.
Ronni is a mover and shaker in the Australian country music scene and with several chart-topping singles and a Golden Saddle award nomination under her belt, she is someone to keep an eye on. Ronni is also an awesome fiddle player and combined with her original music that was influenced by a childhood commuting between Australian and America this should be an awesome night.
Anyway, don't just take it from me, check out Ronni's website to find out more about her...
The second reason why this session is important is that it is our last for 2009. The last two years of running The Orphanage Sessions have been a great ride and there are so many amazing moments that we've witnessed that we won't forget for a long time. Every single artist that has walked in the door at our little venue has commented on the fantastic vibe that the room has. Despite that we've had nights full to the brim and a few nights where a very small number of faithful have turned up, but even those nights were great and in some ways the performance of our guests was better than it would be as they responded to the intimacy and enthusiasm of those present.
In amongst all this we've made the very difficult decision to cut back the number of Orphanage Sessions next year from ten to four. The reason for this is to give us time to tour our new album outside Sydney. We're looking forward to getting down to Melbourne and Adelaide early next year and then looking at where else round the country we can get to. This is the next reason why the next Orphanage Session is an important one for us.
So to sum up, please make time to come visit us at the next Orphanage Session. As always we can promise a fantastic night of music and inspiration and in doing so you can help us celebrate the two great years of gigs we've had as we look forward to a new year and a new direction.

Ronni Rae Rivers appears with Dear Orphans at The Orphanage Session at 8.30pm on Saturday 21st November at the Mars Hill Café. Tickets are available at the door for $15.

New band name and Facebook fan page
We're changing our name to "Dear Orphans" to avoid confusion with several other "The Orphans" around the world (including Wisconsin's number 1 cover band). We think the new names pretty cool and we've got a new Facebook fan page to reflect the change. You can check it out here...

The Orphans on Home Grown Roots 3
Home Grown Roots 3 is showcase of original Australian roots music and includes tracks from Paul Kelly, John Butler, Ash Grunwald and Mia Dyson to name a few. Closer to home our friends Karl Broadie, The Yearlings and Natalie D Napoleon also contribute tracks. I've been listening to it non-stop for the last week and can vouch that this is a great collection. My personal favourite track (other than our own of course) is Central Coast duo, Nick and Liesel's track Wyong River.
We've been lucky enough to contribute our track Rain and our proud to feature alongside these great Australian artists.
