Lianna Rose makes a rare Sydney appearance at The Orphanage Sessions this month
Growing up on a farm on the south coast of New South Wales, Lianna Rose dreamed of being a singer. In 2009 that dream came true with an album she released on her own steam. Lianna joins us for a rare appearance in Sydney at the next Orphanage Session.
Mixing traditional country influences, with a love for John Mellencamp and a partner who plays guitar for Rose Tatoo, Lianna Rose is a powerhouse of original country/roots music. Announcing to us at the end of 2007 that her new years resolution was to take her music more seriously, Lianna declared, "I've got a day job". This seemingly back-to-front move gave Lianna the freedom to, in her own words, "never play a covers gig again". Instead she vowed to only play her own original music from that point onwards.
In 2008 she took an album she had paid for and recorded herself and, rejecting record deals from major players, chose to release it herself. The album Soak Up the World gained major airplay, resulting in more than one top 20 singles in the country charts. Now she's signed a publishing deal with Mushroom Records and has had her songs played on Home and Away.
Lianna writes songs that are raw and honest, as well as being fun and reminiscent of growing up in the bush. She's not afraid to rock out and this Orphanage Session represents a rare appearance in Sydney. This is one gig that is not to be missed.
Read more about Lianna on the Who's Playing page.
Lianna Rose appears with The Orphans at The Orphanage Session at 8.30pm on Saturday 20th June at the Mars Hill Café. Tickets are available at the door for $10.

Hot Damn!
The Huckleberry Swedes @ The Orphanage Sessions - November 22, 2008
By Natasha David
Intense anticipation accompanied me to the recent and final Orphanage Session of the year. After all I was about to witness in person the “darlings of the Adelaide alt-country”, the Huckleberry Swedes!
Having missed the last few sessions, it was great to get back to the intimate atmosphere of the Mars Hill Café, with its laid-back atmosphere and up-close and-personal accessibility.
The sessions are certainly building momentum, with a record-breaking turn-out, requiring extra chairs throughout the first set for eager listeners.

The Orphans on Home Grown Roots 3
Home Grown Roots 3 is showcase of original Australian roots music and includes tracks from Paul Kelly, John Butler, Ash Grunwald and Mia Dyson to name a few. Closer to home our friends Karl Broadie, The Yearlings and Natalie D Napoleon also contribute tracks. I've been listening to it non-stop for the last week and can vouch that this is a great collection. My personal favourite track (other than our own of course) is Central Coast duo, Nick and Liesel's track Wyong River.
We've been lucky enough to contribute our track Rain and our proud to feature alongside these great Australian artists.
